The Essequibo & Mazaruni Rivers Island Adventure Tour begins at 161 Lamaha and Waterloo Streets, where you'll board a comfortable air-conditioned coach for a scenic drive across the famous Demerara Harbour Bridge to the port town of Parika. From there, the journey continues by boat as you explore the rich history and natural beauty of several key islands and towns along the rivers. Your first stop is Fort Island, home to two important Dutch colonial landmarks: Fort Zeelandia and the Court of Policy, the oldest non-military structure in Guyana, now a museum showcasing the island’s storied past.
-
Next, you’ll visit Bartica, a vibrant riverside town known as the “Gateway to the Interior,” with its red earth, lively market streets, and ties to gold and diamond mining. The tour then takes you to one of two scenic lunch stops. You can choose between Sloth Island Nature Resort, nestled in 160 acres of pristine rainforest and offering opportunities to spot wildlife and take a canopy walk, or the modern Aruwai White H2O Resort, a luxurious retreat with a pool and bar located on the Mazaruni River.
-
After lunch, the boat heads to Kyk-Over-Al Island, where you’ll explore the ruins of a historic Dutch fort built in 1616 at the confluence of the Essequibo, Cuyuni, and Mazaruni Rivers. The final stop is Baracara Falls at Wel te Vreeden, a serene natural spot where you can relax and take a refreshing dip after a full day of adventure. This tour offers the perfect blend of history, culture, and nature, creating a memorable experience for the whole family.
